And love them. She had customized a lovely piece for me a few years ago, that is still one of my favorite pieces of art. Mermaid 1 Aloha! DIY Record Bowl

DIY Record Bowl My grandmother saw some record bowls when we were at the Treasure Island flea market. (pictures of the day to follow soon) Being a DIYer and having a huge box of old records, I told her that I would make her some.  To start you need to pick out a record. I went out to the barn and pulled out this record. Turn on the oven to 350 degree. As you are waiting for the oven to warm up pull out the rest of the items that you are going to need, cookie sheet, a bowl that can go in the oven (pyrex is what I used), oven mitts and  a clean space on the counter.  Lay the record evenly over the bowl.  Once the oven is warmed carefully place the cookie sheet in the oven.  It doesnt take very long for the vinyl to soften up. See how it drapes over the bowl. Carefully remove the cookie sheet. You can start molding into shape while on the bowl. (make sure you are using oven mitts, IT'S HOT!) Then you can take off the bowl. Set it on the counte

A big update to a tiny apartment

I was asked by a friend to update and clean up her little apartment while she was gone on vacation. So of course I jumped on the opportunity. And sooooo excited to share with you what was done. And here is the best part, it was under $200.00.  So let's get started. In her tiny little kitchen, she had a lot of random shelves. There really was no theme and things really didn't have a home. I had cleaned up her cabinets and was able to move a lot of canned and boxed foods it to the cabinets. For the items that are not used as much went to the top shelf. I bought her a cute little green stool for the hard to reach stuff.  She wanted art in the kitchen so she had large upcycled bags on the walls. Those were moved and replaced with art from the living room.  As you can see in the below pictures, how much cleaner it is and organized it looks. I bought her new drinking cups. They look like vintage mason jars with lids. Perfect since she likes to juice so she

Garden ready, finally

I'm so excited for spring this year. There's a fresh smell in the air from all the flowers blooming. The sounds of the new baby birds chirping in the morning.  Last year I had a small little garden.  As you can see a wheel barrel doesn't hold a lot.  So this year, went a little bigger and of course had to make sure it was a raised garden. There were many ideas thrown about how big the garden would be and how it was going to be constructed. The frame was the top part of a loft style bunk bed. My brother moved out soooo.... Instead of throwing the frame in the trash, decided it would make a prefect raised garden.  Moved the frame to the to where I wanted the garden. Used an old pull liner on the bottom. We have guffers, so it kinda stops them from digging into the garden. And added metal sheeting to keep the dirt from falling through the cracks.  Now its time to get some dirt.  Love that I live in the country.  My dad borrowed the neighbors

Uniform Purse

I had been asked to make a purse for a spouse. I really enjoy make things but this is one of my favorites. I have made a lot in the last couple of years and no two are the same. Each one is unique in their own way.  The women receiving them really seem to enjoy the purse/ diaper bag. So lets get started. First get an ODU blouse Decide on what fabric you want.   Decide on if it is going to be a purse or a diaper bag. This is so you know how much you will have to cut off.  This one is going to be a purse. Then decide how many pockets. This one is going to have one pocket.  Add some handles.  I used the sleeves from the blouse and the rest of the patriotic fabric And here you have it.  A perfect way to support your SAILORS and TROOPS.

Fun upcycled project

Most everyone these days loves a good ole upcycling project. This dresser has been out on the patio for a while just waiting for the right person to come along and to give it a new life. My friend Skyler just moved into her new place and had no furniture. Soooooooooooooo I thought this would be perfect for her. And she was super excited when I told her about it.  She came over, saw it and in that moment know what she wanted to do with it. Moved it to the front of the house and got to work prepping it.  This is Skyler working hard This upcycled project took about a month. From the cleaning, sanding, drawing and painting. Skyler is an amazing artist.(I will be showing off more of her work soon.)  She drew the picture by hand, then painted it with beautiful bright colors. Skyler did such an amazing job. I truly can't wait to see what her imagination comes up with next.
