Two Magpies Collection

I would like to introduced my cousin Megan the owner of Two Magpies Collection. Not only is she balancing a career as a member of the Air Force, a wife and a mother of a sweet little boy, but she has decided to add an Etsy shop to her already busy life. She makes the cutest baby blankets and burb cloths, that make the perfect baby shower gift or just something soft and sweet for your own little one. I had a chance to ask her a few questions.

What’s your favorite piece of work that you have created?

I've attached a photo of my favorite blanket in my shop.  I just
love the bright colors and adorable dragons.

What are you working on at the moment?

Finishing up some more blankets.  I'm also excited to be working on
my first quilt.

Where else do you sell your work?

So far just Etsy.  We'll see how things go and perhaps expand from there.

What else should we know about you and your work?

I'm a working mom and enjoy doing this basically during my child's
nap time.  I have found the process challenging and it's brought me
great joy.

Do you have any tips or inspiring words for others?

Nope, still getting my feet under me on this one.  But I would
encourage people to find their own creative outlets.

What inspires you?

I've always been someone who enjoyed crafting, I'm not quite sure
where that comes from, but it's always been there.  As far as this
particular venture, two things inspired me: first, having my child
seemed to shift my focus to working on creating baby items.  Second,
my mother gave me two blankets to use with my child that she had
originally made for me.  They were large and soft, and great for
putting on the ground for playtime.  I loved having these handmade
items from my mother, knowing the love with which she had made them.
I hoped I could share that with others.

What do you want people to know about your work?

Everything is soft and cuddly, and meant to be joyful.  Creating
these items has been great fun and I hope that comes through the work.

How did you get started?

A desire to learn to sew and make baby blankets for friends/family

Make sure to check out her shop Two Magpies Collection and share with all of your friends.

Welcome to

Scotland There should be no surprise that us girls would go here.  The first day we drove around and found a really cute B and B. The next day we picked up Kristlynne. ( that's Kristas sister in law) I know what your thinking two crazy gals was trouble but three crazy gals. All 3 of us have some kind of connection with Scotland. As we were driving back from Sterling we stopped at the  Kelpies . These horse heads are huge. They can be seen from the highway. A lot of creativity and work when into creating these. As an artist I can really respect what the artist has created. ...

Monterey Fun

My friend Skyler was leaving for a Coast Guard trade school. She is going to go for MST, that is a marina science technician. We thought we should go on one more trip before she left. So we  headed off to one of our favorite places MONTEREY. While we were there we thought it would be fun to go diving. SOOO we did what any mermaid would do but go to the local dive shop, rent some gear and went diving.  The weather was a perfect 80 degrees. The water temperature was a freezing 50 degrees.  (Just a little cold) Here are a few pictures of the dive. This was a large Sea Hare Slug. He was close to a foot long  (Fun fact they can grow up to 16in long) I have not seen so many sand dollars in one place.  It was a really neat thing to see. That little white speck is an octopus (Just a baby) That's me That's Skyler We also went  looking for Mermaid Tears (sea glass, found a good amount) and did some shopping...

DIY Wedding Ring Box

It's been a while since I shared a DIY project. My little brother got married, there's a few projects that I did for this joyous occasion. I am really excited about how they turned out. I wanted to share with everyone the Wedding ring box project. The bride has shown me a picture of one that she liked online. And I thought it would be an easy task to make one instead of buying one. I found this little box at Jo Ann's craft store. Frist I started by removing the hardware. Stained it a dark color. After that was done drying, it was painted with a cream color. Then lightly sanded the corners and some of the flat surfaces, for a rustic look. I used transferable paper to get the image onto the box. I had purchased a small thing of silk and used Polly fill, for where the rings will sit. I did have an oopsie, had put the words inside the lid upside down. It was an easy fix. I couldn't be any happier with the way it turned ...
